Lines I cringed on...

Now that Drudge has released the text, here are the lines I cringed on... (do I still have to watch this?

I have to admit, this has the potential to be a good speech... but here are my cringing lines:

WHAT? "open eyes, open mind, and endless world are bigger and more lasting than any words."

HOW SWEET "She sat by my bed when I was sick, and she answered the questions of a child who, like all children, found the world full of wonders and mysteries."

FINISH WHAT, IS THIS A NOD TO TEREZA? "And by the power of her example, she showed me that we can and must finish the march toward full equality for all women in our country. "

AGAIN, SWEET. "He gave me my first model airplane, my first baseball mitt and my first bicycle."

ADMITTEDLY a GOOD LINE: "But we're not finished. The journey isn't complete. The march isn't over. The promise isn't perfected. Tonight, we're setting out again. And together, we're going to write the next great chapter of America's story. "

CONJURING MCCAIN: "And then I reached across the aisle to work with John McCain, to find the truth about our POW's and missing in action, and to finally make peace with Vietnam."

DISGUSTING SLAP: "I will be a commander in chief who will never mislead us into war. I will have a Vice President who will not conduct secret meetings with polluters to rewrite our environmental laws. I will have a Secretary of Defense who will listen to the best advice of our military leaders. And I will appoint an Attorney General who actually upholds the Constitution of the United States. "

IRONIC: "My fellow citizens, elections are about choices. And choices are about values. In the end, it's not just policies and programs that matter; the president who sits at that desk must be guided by principle. "

INVOKING REAGAN: "It is time to reach for the next dream. It is time to look to the next horizon. For America, the hope is there. The sun is rising. Our best days are still to come. "

"We will destroy you!" ??

In his speech last night John Edwards said:

And we will have one clear unmistakable message for al Qaida and the rest of these terrorists. You cannot run. You cannot hide. And we will destroy you.

Email from John Edwards, Himself!

Dear Justin,

What a remarkable day today is going to be. You and I are going to have the great pleasure of watching John Kerry stand before America and lay out his plans for leading our country in a new, more promising direction.

And then, we're going to have the awesome responsibility of carrying his vision of a stronger America to the White House.

Last night in my speech at the convention, I tried to make it clear how much is at stake in this election. I talked about the values you and I share, the principles we cherish, and the belief we have that our optimism and energy can not only carry us to victory in November, but -- far more importantly -- carry America forward over the next four years.

At the heart of our campaign, there are literally millions of people who are pouring their hearts and souls into winning this election. If ever there were a day for you to give voice to the depth of this support for John Kerry, this is it.

This is John Kerry's big day. But it's your big day too. I urge you to use it to make a strong personal statement of your support for John Kerry. Attend a house party tonight. Ask your friends to sign up on JohnKerry.com. Commit to registering a friend to vote. Make a contribution. How you participate is up to you. But whatever you do, don't sit on the sidelines.

There are only 14 weeks until November 2 -- the day America chooses between Kerry-Edwards and Bush-Cheney. We've got to make every one of those days count. But most important right now, we've got to make this day count. Today is the day that John Kerry sets forth his vision for America's future -- and the day we need you and others like you all across America to help spread that vision.

That's the path to victory in November and to a stronger America. Let's start our journey together right now.

Sincerely,

John Edwards

Clinton team "obsessed" about being timid

Political correctness and timidness was all the rage during the Clinton administration when considering how to respond to Bin Laden according to "Mike" (an infiltrated CIA agent):

On December 20, intelligence indicated Bin Ladin would be spending the night at the Haji Habash house, part of the governor's residence in Kandahar. The chief of the Bin Ladin unit, "Mike," told us that he promptly briefed Tenet and his deputy, John Gordon. From the field, the CIA's Gary Schroen advised: "Hit him tonight—we may not get another chance." An urgent teleconference of principals was arranged.

The principals considered a cruise missile strike to try to kill Bin Ladin. One issue they discussed was the potential collateral damage—the number of innocent bystanders who would be killed or wounded. General Zinni predicted a number well over 200 and was concerned about damage to a nearby mosque...By the end of the meeting, the principals decided against recommending to the President that he order a strike...

Some lower-level officials were angry. "Mike" reported to Schroen that he had been unable to sleep after this decision. "I'm sure we'll regret not acting last night," he wrote, criticizing the principals for "worrying that some stray shrapnel might hit the Habash mosque and offend Muslims."

The principals, he said, were "obsessed" with trying to get others—Saudis, Pakistanis, Afghan tribals-to "do what we won't do." Schroen was disappointed too. "We should have done it last night," he wrote. "We may well come to regret the decision not to go ahead." (9-11 Report, page 147-148)

Rick L makes an interesting find...

The Corner on National Review Online: "We apparently identified bin Laden at a camp, but held off an attack partly because of worries that a member of the UAE royal family was there too. But we hoped bin Laden might return to the camp and we would be able to target him then. Enter Richard Clarke and here is the commission's narrative:

"Even after bin Laden's departure from the area, CIA officers hoped he might return, seeing the camp as a magnet that could draw him for as long as it was still set up. The military maintained readiness for another strike opportunity. On March 7, 1999, Clarke called a UAE official to express his concerns about possible associations between Emirati officials and bin Laden. Clarke later wrote in a memorandum of this conversation that the call had been approved at an interagency meeting and cleared with the CIA. When the former bin Laden unit chief found out about Clarke's call, he questioned CIA officials, who denied having given such clearance. Imagery confirmed that less than a week after Clarke's phone call the camp was hurriedly dismantled, and the site was deserted. CIA officers, including Deputy Director for Operations Pavitt, were irate. "Mike" thought the dismantling of the camp erased a possible site for targeting bin Laden."

Linda Rondstadt, avid leftist

somebody switched my picture :). Ah well, this one is better.

LR is no strager to political contrversy:

  • 1983 she goes to South Africa to give a concert reportedly for $500,000.
  • She was "involved" with Jerry Brown reportedly saying: "The truth is, I never had that much interest in politics. I was just involved with a politician. My interest," she emphasized with a smile, "was private."
  • In a July 4th interview Ronstadt mentions: ""I'm going to spend the rest of the summer trying to help John Kerry get elected. The incompetence of this president is so staggering"
  • "The New York Times Book Review is my bible"
  • NewsMax ran an article about her political leanings of late.

Juan Williams on Fox News Sunday

The Kerry Spot on National Review Online: "WILLIAMS: Well, you know what, I always think it's good to talk to people, even people I mean, no permanent enemies, you know, you can no permanent allies, only permanent interests, I think, is the way some have put it. And I think it's an opportunity to go forward. But I understand, as The Wall Street Journal said, why leave with your chin when a right hand is coming. And clearly, Julian Bond has said that this administration, you know, puts the American flag and the Confederate flag and the swastika together. And in that environment, what was the president going to gain?
WALLACE: Juan makes a good case for an appeal that the president can make to the black community. But the NAACP is exactly the wrong place to do it. This is a group that is aging and hasn't come up with any new ideas in years, insults the black appointments of the president, doesn't agree with him vouchers and doesn't like the faith- based initiative. There are groups to go to for the president where the president might make some headway. The NAACP is not one of them.
WILLIAMS: Where he's going to go, the Urban League, he's going to get a younger audience. And if you look at younger black and Hispanic voters, they're more apt to describe themselves as independent voters or even Republican voters."

New York Post Online Edition: gossip

New York Post Online Edition: gossip: "Teresa Heinz Kerry surprised and worried some of the 1,000 guests at Friday morning's Women for Kerry breakfast when she looked out at the crowd and said, 'We had better get you women some birth control, there are so many of you here!'"

Morris on Edwards' Fundraising

New York Post Online Edition: postopinion: "For example, $1 million of Edwards' funds came from trial lawyers' wives identified merely as 'homemakers' in the campaign-finance filings. If the money came from their husbands, there could be a violation of law.

More significant is the example of Little Rock trial lawyer Tad Turner, whose firm gave $200,000 to the Edwards campaign and associated committees. But Slate found last Aug. 29 that many of the 'contributions . . . appear to be illegal.' The online magazine reported that 'one clerk who gave $2,000 said that Turner had 'asked for people to support Edwards' and assured them 'he would reimburse us.' ' Another clerk told much the same story. "

According to the National Journal, John and John rank 1 and 2 as the most liberal senators in the Senate! Now that's a balanced ticket:
